SO ANNOYING HOW PANTS SHRINK!

May 26, 2016

Every year when I go to India, I usually like to get one or two suits tailored. The fabrics are nice and the tailoring is excellent. On my last visit the tailor insisted on giving me a slim fit! I told him, “my days of trying to look super trim are behind me so just stitch me a nice comfortable suit!” When I went for the first fitting both pant and jacket were too tight. On the second fitting, they were looser but still too tight. And on the final fitting which was the day I was leaving back to Australia, it still wasn’t to my satisfaction. But I thought I’ll work on my fitness and I’m sure I will drop an inch or two!

Wishful thinking! After  6 months I found that my jacket was too uncomfortable to wear and I was only just squeezing into the trousers. So what do you do? You either go on a health kick with some serious calorie reduction. Well, I figured that my diet and exercise routine is pretty good most of the time. And I’m not about to forego one of life’s small pleasures, a glass of red wine a few times a week. So I came to the conclusion that it’s simply part of life and to go with the flow. Our bodies change with time. It’s a natural occurrence. Trying to keep one’s physique like an 18 year old is simply ridiculous and measures to do so in my opinion are “anti-life”.

One of my fitness friends was telling me how some ironman athletes force themselves to vomit in order to assist absorption of nutrients and how others push themselves so hard that they develop rectal bleeding. OMG. Is there anything more “anti-life” than that. Each to their own I guess. I’m not passing judgment. In any case I’m proud to say that I accepted the situation with grace and dignity and headed proudly to the local alteration shop and got my suits loosened. Much easier than torturing myself!

Life’s too short for deprivation. We’re here to live fully in moderation and in balance!
