Life is a marathon, not a sprint

July 9, 2014

We live in days where everything is instant- instant coffee; instant noodles; instant downloads; and even instant knowledge. The human tendency is to try to rush ahead and fulfill all of one’s desires immediately. Even with health, we expect to be able to recover instantly from illness, and go from poor health to radiant vitality overnight.

All good things take time.

The body is amazingly forgiving and will endure many of our indiscretions till eventually it is overwhelmed. However, given the right stimulus, it can respond in an incredible way. The ancient  cultures are a stunning example of patience in action. The temples of Angkor Wat, Cambodia; the Kailas Temple of the Ellora caves in India; and the Great Wall of China were built over many generations, with individuals never even glimpsing the finished result. They simply did what was required.

Similarly with health, it is important to focus on the small steps and build a solid foundation.
