LIVE YOUR LIFE, NOT SOMEONE ELSES

December 4, 2016

I was chatting to a young friend recently at a lunch and was delighted to listen to some of his revelations. He is in his 20’s and the son of a successful businessman. He had all the opportunities going through school and many of his friends had pursued “conventional degrees” such as medicine, law, or commerce. And though there was no pressure from his parents to excel in the world, there was a self-imposed pressure to “be something” in the world and to “achieve”.

After doing various jobs and trying a number of different things, he finally came to the realisation that his passion was working with his hands and he signed up to an apprenticeship. He was a little concerned to tell his parents, but when he did, they were fully supportive of his choice. The feeling for him knowing that he could pursue something that he loved, without fear of the outcome, with the full support of his parents was one of great freedom.

It takes faith to focus on finding “your thing” and be able to trust that everything will work out ok. As parents, it’s important to help our kids explore life and find their calling. Doing something that doesn’t inspire us is the recipe for a sad life. Having a purpose is like a self -charging battery. Purpose, passion, persistence and patience. These are the 4P’s that I talk about when I speak on Health and Wellness.

Get those 4P’s right and your on your way to a happy and fulfilling life.
