ROAD RAGE AND THE BUSYNESS EPIDEMIC

November 17, 2015

The other day I was dropping off my wife outside the supermarket entrance in the car park. I stopped for all of 10 seconds before I heard the horn going off behind me. I’m all for advocating peace, but when it comes to road rage, my middle finger is the first to rise, especially when it’s pure impatience on the part of the other party!

My instant reaction was that it would be a young 25 year old bloke with no concept of manners, etiquette or patience. But when I looked a little more closely, it was little old lady with dyed purple hair which had been carefully fashioned with rollers! Yes, truly. I was a little shocked that this lack of patience has even filtered up to our senior citizens who are generally considered the most cultured and respectful in society.

Next time you are about to press on the horn, just stop, take a deep breath and look a little deeper at why you are in such a hurry. 99% of the time it’s because we don’t allow for buffer time in our daily routines. Everything is so tightly packed that there is no space to stop and wait. It’s so simple to remedy. Here’s a few tips:

  • Schedule less
  • Wake up earlier
  • Leave home earlier
  • Allow more time for each appointment
  • Factor in buffer time between each appointment

You will find that life is so much more enjoyable and you will actually enjoy the moments when you are able to display patience. This can be your reality, truly!
