TECHNOLOGY CAN BE A USEFUL HEALTH TOOL

February 17, 2016

Last week I was doing my ward rounds at the hospital and was seeing a post operative patient. He was sitting up in bed very comfortably after a prostate surgery watching live sport on his iPad. I asked him how he did that because I’m not so technologically savvy. It was the Foxtel iPad app that he was using.

So many of us have Foxtel, Netflix or the Apple TV but don’t get to use it because we are out and about and on the go most of the time. The beauty of technology is that you can utilise these applications for times when you are not in the comfort of your own home. There’s so many wonderful resources of information out there to suit your interest and inclination. The ABC iviewer is another wonderful resource and I am sure there are many more that i don’t know about. Additionally there are so many podcasts and You Tube talks that you can use to educate and inspire yourself.

It just takes a little bit of effort to work out how to use these devices. I know many of my senior friends and relatives whose lives have been revolutionised by the iPad. They are able to stay connected to family and friends via Facebook whilst in a different part of the world. And Skype and FaceTime  has enabled families to stay in touch in a more intimate way. How times have changed since the days when you would have to contact the operator and arrange a reverse charges call! I guess I’m showing my age now!!!

There are some aspects of technology that I don’t like, especially with kids, but it’s worth using the positive aspects. Make sure you bargain the best deal though. There’s plenty of savings to be made.
