WHATS THAT WHAT’S APP DOING TO YOUR HEAD?

January 31, 2016

I’m not sure about you, but I know that I am on half a dozen what’s app groups and I know others who are on many more. It can become an obsession where every notification needs to be checked and responded to. Social media is a great way of connecting to others from all over the world but it can interfere with your mind space.

I heard that one of our friends recently moved herself from most of these groups. A simple message was sent to all saying that she was available via other channels if anyone needed her. I think it’s a great idea. We are constantly bombarded by messages that it becomes difficult to be present and in the moment. In the same way that it’s good to go through our cupboards and clean out old and unwanted items, it’s useful to go through our social media and see what is adding value to our lives versus what is adding stress, tension and unnecessary clutter. Go ahead and do it without fear that others will take offence.

Additionally we need to be a role model for our children. If you set some ground rules for yourself and the kids, you won’t need to be on constant social media patrole. But like everything else, your children will learn from you and your habits. So if they see you constantly on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, What’s app then they are more than likely to do the same.

Try a Social media cleanse! It will give you more mind space to experience joy, contentment and peace.
