EMPIRES COME AND GO- JUST BE NICE!

December 24, 2015

New Delhi is full of history and monuments to serve as a reminder of the rise and fall of empires. The Qutab Minar is a towering minaret measuring 73 meters in height. It was built by the Muslim invader  Qutub-ud-Din Aibak who established the first city of Delhi in the 11th century. Prior to his invasion Delhi was under Hindu rule. Over the next 200 years him and his successors completed the impressive structure. And eventually it returned to Hindu rule.

But no matter how impressive the structure and how massive the empire, every power monger will go the same way, to their grave! The human yearning for immortality springs from the non material aspect within all of us, which makes us strive for eternity through many avenues. To be “remembered” for our efforts or our achievements is one of these. But even after scaling the heights of power, wealth or fame it will always fall short of our expectation. Even after the accomplishment there will be something  missing. That something can only be found within. It’s a different search which travels inwards.

Iron pillar

That search is one of irony. As you become bigger and wider in spirit, you will become smaller and more humble in ego. The big self soars whilst the little self shrinks. Expansiveness leads to nothingness…
