FIND A COMMUNITY MARKET

February 1, 2016

Over the weekend we stumbled upon a little community market in Bentleigh which is one of the suburbs of Melbourne. It was a small but quaint market with a number of traders operating out of the back of their cars with stalls displaying range of different items from plants to soaps to pebbles.

I love the feeling of a community market so much more than a big warehouse like Bunnings or Ikea! People look relaxed and unhurried whereas in the big centres everyone looks distressed! I needed a few plants and I found a stall which was being run by a very cute elderly Vietnamese couple. I don’t think we could really understand each other but at the end of the exchange, I walked away with some lovely indoor plants at half the price that I would have paid at a proper nursery.

Keep a lookout for country community markets which are often held on the first Saturday of every month and for local farmers markets. Not only will you have a fabulous time, you will be supporting the smaller trader who’s working hard and following their passion.
