NEVER SET ANY LIMITS ON WHAT’S POSSIBLE

September 4, 2016

On of the joys of my work is hearing people’s stories, and they are all so interesting. Especially in Australia which is such a multicultural country, everyone has a tale to tell. Even those with several generations of history, if you trace it back far enough, there’s someone who had a huge adventure coming to Australia.

The other day I met a doctor who came out from Ukraine and wanted to pursue a medical career in Australia. Every overseas doctor who comes here gets put through the “ringer” and as consumers we expect that everyone has reached the same standards expected of local graduates. He sat and passed both the written and oral exams and commenced his medical career here in country victoria which was one of the restrictions.

I got chatting to him at the pub that I go to in Foster victoria. These days he prefers not to be tied down too much. He lives for kite surfing and I was given a detailed exposition about the intricacies of kitesurfing which was fascinating. I love how there is something for everyone in this world! I shared with him my passion for golf. In order to follow his passion he did locum work in various parts of Australia. He may not have the regular chattels of a successful medical career, but he was able to use his medical skills in remote parts of australia whilst simultaneously pursuing his kite surfing.

I see so many people who are bored with their careers. Somehow you have to find a way to stay alive and interested. Boredom is the greatest killer! Find it through work or a hobby or through friendships. Everyone needs something that gives them pleasure and fulfilment.
