RELIGIONS AND PRAYERS ARE USELESS UNLESS….

November 14, 2015

It’s such an irony that it takes immense tragedy such as Paris for us to realise the preciousness of life. Why do we live with such arrogance most of the time when in a flash this gift of life can be taken away. You maybe living in Melbourne, Mumbai or Madrid, but the world is such a small place that nowhere is immune from these extremists. But we can not let that stop us from living. It must not push us in the direction of fear.

The only positive that can come out of such atrocities, is that it unites people. If only we lived in that state of unity all the time this world would be a better place. And it starts in our own homes. There’s no point having a prayer room and uttering mantras if we come out and abuse our partner and children. There is little point fasting for Lent or Ramadan, if we treat our brethren with contempt. I would go so far as to say that there is no point in religions and prayer unless it makes us better human beings and shines forth our humanity.

Just for a day, go through your daily routine, looking through a different lens. Send forth thoughts of love and care. Start with those nearest and dearest to you and extend it to strangers that you meet or see. This is no soft mamby-pamby love and care. This is the love and care that comes out of true strength and power. It’s solid. It’s tough and it’s real. And in order to counter the tide of these fanatics, a collective uprising needs to happen.

So sad today…

Stay well, but turn your hearts on fire.
