Sickness is a part of life

July 12, 2014

Within the space of Health and Wellness there must exist a place for sickness and ill-health. After all the body is not a machine and is subject to problems. Despite our best efforts we maybe struck down by illness.

Though it is important to try to rectify the problem to return to a state of Health and Wellness, often there is an opportunity to learn and practice new skills such as patience, care and compassion. This applies to ourselves as well as family and friends around us.

Sometimes life simply sucks and we can feel like the whole world is stacked against us. Whatever maybe the cause, any of us can end up with an acute illness or something more serious such as cancer, chronic pain, or some other chronic condition. It can all be frankly depressing at times, but that is the reality of life. No amount of positive thinking can dig us out of that space.

Acceptance then action.

It is a fine balance when illness strikes. Too much acceptance turns to passivity and a victim mentality. Too much action too soon leads to frustration and dejection. So when illness comes, first accept it, then analyse it, and then with patience, compassion and love, take the necessary action to move into a better space.
