MOSSMAN GORGE

April 6, 2015

On our recent holiday we visited the magnificent Mossman Gorge. According to our young guide from the local community, the rainforest is 170 million years old. It’s hard to put a number like that in perspective, but as a comparison he said the Amazon was 7 million years old.

It is always humbling to walk on ancient soil and amongst sacred lands on which the local indigenous community known as Kuku Yalanji lived. Breathing the fresh air of the rainforest and bathing in the freshwater rock pools fills one’s entire being with energy. It is a truly refreshing and rejuvenating experience. We spend most of our days indoors with controlled environments. Even when we exercise it is often in a gymnasium rather than in the fresh air of nature.

If we don’t have any choice, than exercising in a gym is better than not at all. But if we are able to get out into nature to walk, run, cycle or swim then that has to be ideal. As the weather gets cooler in Melbourne I will no doubt make more use of indoor facilities, but there are still some magnificent mornings when it is crisp and clear with blue skies that are truly invigorating.

Find a way to move.
