AUSTRALIAN CRICKET AND THE FINE ART OF JUDGMENT

January 19, 2016

I was watching the cricket the other day between India and Australia. It was the second one-day match at the GABA in Brisbane. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were crafting out a very nice inning upto nearly 6 runs an over when Kohli decided to go for a very dicey second run. The throw came in straight over the bails and Kohli was run out. Big error of judgment.

These are the “1%ers” that are the difference between winners and losers. How does this relate to health you may ask?! The fact is that we have choices every moment of every day. Most of them are not so critical as in my previous example, but chronic poor choices over long periods of time will lead to problems. Food choices, sedentary lifestyles, excessive rushing and busyness, chronic stress, all have an impact on our health, and the vast majority of these are dependent on the choices that we make.

The Australian cricket team is sometimes criticised for their overly aggressive style, but I love the fact how they train with precision and in the crunch moments, they seem to make the right choices. They make the right choices so often because that is the way that they train. And following that, their ability to execute is very precise.

So in 2016, let’s aim for good choices!
